Mashed Potatoes with Gravy
Mashed Potatoes with Gravy
Ingredients
For Mashed Potatoes
• 2 lbs (about 1 kg) potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet work best)
• 4 tbsp butter
• ½ cup warm milk (or heavy cream for richer texture)
• Salt & black pepper to taste
For Gravy
• 2 tbsp butter (or pan drippings from roasted meat)
• 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
• 2 cups beef or chicken broth (warm)
• Salt & black pepper to taste
• Optional: a dash of soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce for depth
Instructions
Mashed Potatoes
1. Peel and cut potatoes into chunks.
2. Place in a large pot, cover with salted water, and boil until fork-tender (about 15–20 min).
3. Drain and return to the pot. Add butter and warm milk.
4. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper.
Gravy
1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
2. Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until golden (this is your roux).
3. Slowly pour in warm broth, whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
4. Simmer until thickened (about 5–7 minutes).
5. Season with salt, pepper, and optional soy/Worcestershire sauce.
To Serve
Spoon creamy mashed potatoes onto a plate or bowl, then drizzle (or flood!) with hot, rich gravy. Perfect alongside roast beef, chicken, turkey, or just on its own for comfort food bliss.
